BLUES N'AT

Happy 420! Mrs. Black-N-Gold celebrates the Stoner's Holiday by listenting to the classic Muddy Waters tune "Champagne and Reefer". The song appeared on the album Muddy "Mississippi" Waters-Live. The disc was released in 1979 on the Blue Sky label and was produced by Johnny Winter.

Muddy starts out the song by asking you to give him champagne when he's thirsty and give him reefer when he wants to get high. He feels there should be no law on people that want to smoke a little dope (agreed!). Besides, it's good for your head and will relax your body. From the sound of it, Muddy likes to get high with his lady, too. He says to bring his woman and set her down there by his side. He also likes to lay his head down on his baby's breast when he gets high.

Muddy digs the reefer and likes getting high. He's got no time for anything other than that champagne and reefer. He closes out the song by declaring that he'll stick with the reefer. He ain't going to be messing around with no cocaine.

Many other notable musicians agree with Muddy. This hit has been covered by the likes of Buddy Guy, The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Gov't Mule, Stevie Ray Vaughan and the Black Crowes.

Mrs. Black-N-Gold is going to celebrate 420 the right way. You can have your whiskey and your cocaine. Mrs. Black-N-Gold will pop open a bottle of the bubbly and fire up a doobie! Until next time, boys and girls. Keep It Bluesy!
