                                         THE BLACK-N-GOLD NEWS

Penguins-Black-N-Gold hockey continues to take a beating. The Pens have dropped 5 straight. The injuries continue to pile up, too. D Kris Letang is out for the season (if they make the playoffs). Letang did manage to win the Pens Defensive Player of the Year Award. D Derrick Pouilot was named Rookie of the Year while G Marc-Andre Fleury is your team MVP. Congrats to all! Meanwhile, Pouilot was out for Friday's 3-1 loss to the Isles and is listed as day-to-day. The Pens faceoff against the Sabres tonight in Buffalo. If they win, they're in. They may even have a chance to back into the playoffs if they lose and get some help. Can the Pens make a 9th straight trip to the postseason and pull out of this months-long malaise? Let's Go Pens!!!

Pirates-Pittsburgh's Black-N-Gold baseball team started the week by finishing up the exhibition schedule in Philly and cutting the roster down to the 25-man limit. RH Charlie Morton was placed on the 15-day DL. He was joined on the disabled list by RH Brandon Cumpton, C Chris Stewart, OF Jaff Decker and INF Justin Sellers. With Morton on the DL, the Pirates inserted RH Vance Worley into the starting rotation. The Pirates also DFA'd INF Pedro Florimon and RH Stolmy Pimentel. The Pirates announced that OF/1B Andrew Lambo, and RHs Arquimedes Caminero and Rob Scahill made the team. The Pirates season didn't start off very well. They were swept in Cincy, scoring only 6 runs in the process. Some good news coming out of the Buccos front offices were that they locked up 3B Josh Harrison to a 4 year deal with club options for 2019 and 2020. We'll see more of JHay All Day! Finally, on Friday, the Bucs got off the schneid and in the win column in Milwaukee, beating the Brewers 6-2. They'll continue their series tonight and tomorrow before the Home Opener Monday afternoon against the Detroit Tigers. LH Francisco Liriano will miss tomorrow's start due to paternity leave. RH Casey Sadler will start in his place. Frankie will return for Wednesday's assignment. Let's Go Bucs!!!!!

Steelers-Everyone's favorite Black-N-Gold football team remained busy this week during the offseason. RFA CB Antwon Blake signed his $1.54 million tender. Other RFAs FB Will Johnson and S Robert Golden have not yet signed their tenders. Things started to heat up draft-wise as several players visited or will soon visit the South Side offices. They include Stanford CB Alex Carter, Washington CB Marcus Peters, Virginia LB Max Valles, Virginia LB Eli Harold, Utah DE/LB Nate Orchard, Ole Miss CB Senquez Golson, Auburn TE CJ Uzomah, Auburn WR Sammie Coates and UCF WR Breshard Perriman. The Steelers also released their schedule of preseason opponents. They'll play the Vikings in the Hall of Fame game on 8/9. They're also scheduled to visit Jacksonville, play Green Bay, shuffle off to Buffalo and get a visit from Carolina. All dates and times have yet to be announced. The league released a statement that RB Le'Veon Bell will be suspended for 3 games this season for his part in Pot-Gate. Bell will also be fined. He is expected to appeal the decision. The Steelers also exercised their 5th year option with G David DeCastro. Of course the BIG Steelers news was that S Troy Polamalu has decided he will retire, thus ending his illustrious 12-year career in the Black-N-Gold. Mrs. Black-N-Gold wishes Troy all the best and thanks him for always giving us his best. Thank you, Troy! Let's Go Steelers!!!!!!
