These are your keys to today's game. 1)The Pens are 2-1 versus New Jersey this season. If it's 3 it's for me! 2)The Pens have only won 2 of their last 13 in New Jersey. Time to exorcise those demons! 3)New Jersey has given up an average of 1.71 goals per game at home. The Pens are 5th in the NHL with a 3.1 goal average per game. Steelers win! Unfortunately, it was too little, too late. Your Pittsburgh Steelers were knocked out of the playoff picture in heartbreaking fashion yesterday. Mrs. Black-N-Gold brings you the Good, the Bad & the Ugly from yesterday's 20-7 victory over the Cleveland Clowns.

1)The Good-Looking on the bright side, the Steelers did go 6-2 in their last 8 games. Rookie RB Le'Veon Bell had 20 carries for 90 yards, a 4.5 yard average, and 1 TD. Congrats to the rook. He broke Franco Harris' record for most yards from scrimmage by a Steelers rookie RB. The defense finished strong, holding Cleveland to 7 points. They also had 1 pick, 1 fumble recovery and 3 sacks.

2)The Bad-Starting your season 0-4 and 2-6 is never a good thing. It's a small miracle that the Steelers were even in the playoff hunt on the final day of the season. Looking back on the wins that could have been: Tennessee, Minnesota, Oakland, the second Baltimore game. Those were "bad".

3)The Ugly-The Steelers have some ugly decisions to make this offseason. The defense is still the oldest in the league. DE Brett Keisel tried to make a case early in the game for the Steelers to keep him. Most of the deal breakers could come down to who is willing to take a pay cut/re-structure his contract. It could get ugly, indeed.

One more note worth mentioning, the defending champion Baltimorons will also watch the playoffs from their couches. And look for Cincy to bungle their way to an early postseason exit.

It will be interesting to see how the front office reacts to another mediocre 8-8 season. Players and coaches may want to update their resumes. No matter what, Mrs. Black-N-Gold will continue to bleed black-n-gold. Let's Go Steelers!!!!!!

Here we go Steelers, here we go. Your Pittsburgh Steelers are still alive for the 6th seed in the AFC as they finish the regular season at Heinz Field today against the Cleveland Clowns. These are your keys to today's game. 1)The Steelers are looking for their 10th win in a row over the Clowns at home. Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger is 16-1 for his career versus Cleveland. Score early, score often, score BIG! 2)The Steelers D needs to beware of Cleveland WR Josh Gordon. In their last matchup, a 27-11 Steelers victory, Gordon had 14 catches for 237 yards. Hit him early, hit him often, hit him HARD! 3)With a win today and some help from around the league (a Cincy win over the Baltimorons, a San Diego loss and a Miami loss) the Steelers can become only the second team in NFL history to start the season 0-4 and still make the playoffs. You gotta believe! Let's Go Steelers!!!!!!

As your Pittsburgh Steelers prepare to play their home, and perhaps, season finale Sunday against the Cleveland Clowns, many Steelers fans can't help but wonder if it will be their last opportunity to see SS Troy Polamalu donning the black-n-gold. Congrats to Troy for making his eighth Pro Bowl, but is it enough for the Steelers to keep him? Troy will turn 33 in April. 2014 is the final year of his contract and it will be for $8.25 million. #43 recently told the media that he intends to honor his contract, feeling he still has something left in the tank. Many would agree as he is currently third on the Steelers with 65 total tackles. He has also forced five fumbles this season, two sacks and is tied for the Steelers lead with 2 interceptions and 12 passes defensed. The Steelers may try to have the 2010 NFL Defensive Player of the Year take a cut in pay. They could sight the fact that although Troy has played in every game this season, he's only played one entire season since 2009. Others may say that despite the gaudy statistics, Troy hasn't always played up to the high level of expectation. His inconsistent play could be due to the fact that he was required to line up at inside linebacker for much of the season due to the absence of Larry Foote. Call Mrs. Black-N-Gold a Troy-apologist if you must, but I feel the Steelers can still get a lot of quality football out of Troy Polamalu. If they are able to get it at a reduced price, all the better. As it stands, the Steelers aren't likely to re-sign FS Ryan Clark and they don't have enough depth to be able to replace both of their safeties. And they surely don't have another Troy Polamalu waiting in the wings. So here I am, campaigning for Troy in 2014. Vote early and vote often. Let's Go Steelers!!!!!!

These are your keys to tonight's game. 1)The Pens are 2-0 versus Carolina this season. If it's three it's for me! 2)The Pens have won 12 of their last 14 games. Carolina has lost 6 of 7. Nothin' would be fina than a win in Carolina! 3)The Pens were 0 for 7 on the power play in Monday's 5-0 loss. Take advantage of the man-advantage with some Goals, Goals, Goals! Let's Go Pens!!!

Your Pittsburgh Penguins received a min-vacation for Christmas. They don't play again until Friday. It's a good thing because the black-n-gold are black & blue and could use the time to heal. The Pens list of injured players past and present is longer than Santa's Christmas list. James Neal, Tomas Vokoun and Kris Letang all started the season hurt. Now Letang is injured again along with Evgeni Malkin, Paul Martin, Beau Bennett, Jayson Megna, Brooks Orpik, Rob Scuderi, Tanner Glass and Andrew Ebbett. And don't forget that Pascal Dupuis left Monday's game with an injury. Luckily, the Baby Pens and the healthy scratches have stepped up in a big way. And, of course, Sidney Crosby has been healthy and playing at an MVP-level. Sid, Chris Kunitz and Marc-Andre Fleury have managed to avoid the injury bug and have helped lead the Pens to an Eastern Conference-best 55 points. However, questions do remain. The Pens have gone 8-2 in their last 10 games. Can they keep up the pace? Can the young guys continue to play at this level? And what happens to these young players when the regulars return to health? It's an embarrassment of riches for Coach Dan Bylsma and GM Ray Shero. Perhaps this will give them some bargaining chips come trade-deadline time. Here's hoping the Pens get healthy and find out what they're going to do soon. Let's Go Pens!!!

Winner, winner, chicken dinner! Your Pittsburgh Steelers playoff hopes remain alive as they defeated the Green Bay Packers Sunday, 38-31. Mrs. Black-N-Gold brings you the Good, the Bad and the Ugly from Sunday's victory.

1)The Good-A win is always a good thing. There was plenty of good stuff in this victory. The D's 3 sacks of Green Bay QB Matt Flynn, the pick-six by CB Cortez Allen, and, of course, the fake punt by Mat McBriar with the 30-yard 1st down pass to backup TE David Paulson. All good stuff, indeed.

2)The Bad-NFL officials. In a season full of terrible calls by the zebras, the call on the blocked field goal and the "illegal batting" call on Steelers DE Ziggy Hood, giving the Packers a first and goal that led to a touchdown, was horrible. It's high time the league hold these officials accountable for their ridiculous calls. Honorable mention goes to S Ryan Clark on the same play. DE Cam Heyward got a hand on the Green Bay field goal attempt, blocking the kick. Clark recovered and, in another ridiculous move, tried to lateral the ball to CB William Gay. Why? Why? Why?

3)The Ugly-At one point in the 4th quarter, the defense surrendered 10 unanswered points to the Pack. Kudos to the old guard, for pulling the D's fat out of the fire. On 3rd and 8 from the Green Bay 10, Flynn was allowed to run for what seemed like a potential first down. S Troy Polamalu came from nowhere to strip the ball from Flynn's hands. DE Brett Keisel recovered to set up the Steelers winning touchdown and the 38-31 victory.

The Steelers close out the season at home on Sunday against the Cleveland Clowns who lost on Sunday. Cincy won and the Baltimorons lost. The Steelers need to win Sunday and get some more good will from around the NFL if they hope to make it to the postseason. Get ready for another wild weekend in the NFL. Let's Go Steelers!!!!!!

These are your keys to today's game. 1)The Pens have won 6 in a row and are 9-1 over their last 10 games. The Pens keep a rollin'! 2)The Pens are 16-3 at home and have won 9 in a row on home ice. There's no place like home! 3)The Pens lead the NHL with a record of 21-2-0 when drawing first blood. Keep those Goals, Goals, Goals coming! Let's Go Pens!!!

THE BULLPEN

Mrs. Black-N-Gold has been patiently waiting for Santa to deliver presents to your Pittsburgh Pirates this offseason. Unfortunately, it looks like owner "Bottom Dollar" Bob Nutting is playing the role of Scrooge. While the division-winning St Louie Cardinals have worked to improve their already powerful roster this offseason, Pirates GM Neal Huntington looks like he's done absolutely nothing to make the Pirates better. If anything, his questionable moves have made them worse. First, the Bucs traded for a light-hitting, back-up catcher Chris Stewart. Wouldn't Tony Sanchez be better served under the apprenticeship of Russell Martin this season, instead of toiling away in the minors? This is the final year of Frenchy's contract. Wouldn't you want Sanchez to be ready to take over in 2015? Well, NH did sign a free agent starting pitcher, Edinson Volquez. It turns out he has an ERA over 5 and gave up the most runs in the NL last season. Is that really a bargain at 1 year, $5 million? I know A.J. Burnett has been leaving the Bucs hanging on his decision to pitch or retire, but weren't there any other options available? Neal did manage to re-sign a member of the Pirates team that made it to the postseason last year. Unfortunately, it was no-hitting shortstop Clint Barmes at 1 year for $2 million. Barmes finished 259th out of a possible 260 in OPS last year (players with at least 600 ABs). And let us not forget that Huntington seems intent to go with a rightfield platoon of Jose Tabata/Travis Snider. It also looks like Gaby Sanchez will be the Pirates everday first baseman. The righthanded hitting Gaby Sanchez that can't hit righthanders. To make matters worse, the Pirates recently signed a bunch of nobody players to minor league deals and invited 5 of them to spring training. There's a reason no one heard of these players before, Neal. They can't play. On top of all this, at the recent Piratesfest, president Frank Coonelly went on record as saying the Pirates are in the upper-half of the league as far as revenue from their television deal. Meanwhile, media outlets have been busy disproving that statement about said television contract, which runs through 2019. Unless Nutting, Coonelly, and Huntington get their acts together and find a way to actually improve this team, I say lumps of coal all around for the 3 of them this Christmas. Let's Go Bucs!!!

Let's hunt moose on a Harley, it's a hockey night in Pittsburgh! Your Pittsburgh Penguins look to tame the Minnesota Wild tonight as they faceoff at Consol Energy Center. These are your keys to tonight's game. 1)Both teams like to take advantage of the man-advantage. Minnesota is 7th in the NHL on the PP at a 20.9% clip while the Pens lead the league at 26.9%. The Pens put the "Power" in power play! 2)These teams are not as evenly matched on the penalty-kill. The Pens are 3rd overall at 86.9%. Meanwhile, Minnesota is a paltry 25th at 78.6%. The Pens special teams is extra-special! 3)The Pens are 6th in the league in goals per game with a 3.0 average. Minnesota is a bottom-feeder at 29th, eking out 2.2 goals per game. These are your keys to tonight's game. 1)The Pens go for win #5 in a row. 5 would not be jive! 2)The Strangers are in the midst of a 9-game homestand. So far, they are 1-3-1 on that homestand. Time for a home invasion,  Pens-style! 3)In his last 3 starts versus the Pens, Strangers G Henrik Lundqvist is 2-0-1 with a 0.97 GAA. Don't get caught napping on these guys. Winner, winner, chicken dinner! Your Pittsburgh Steelers picked up a victory on Sunday Night Football as they defeated the Cincy Bungles 30-20. Mrs. Black-N-Gold brings you the Good, the Bad and the Ugly from the Steelers win.

1)The Good-A "W" is always a good thing and there was a good bit of good in this game. QB Ben Roethlisberger continues to impress, going 20 for 25 with 1 touchdown and a 95.2 passer rating. He did, however, toss a wind-aided interception, his first in 208 passes. Also, congrats to Ben for setting a new franchise record with his 339th completion of the season. Speaking of records, congrats to RB Le'Veon Bell for becoming only the third rookie in Steelers history to garner over 1,000 yards from scrimmage in a season. There were more good things, as well. The defense was able to hold Cincy to 4 of 14 on third down conversions. Special teams recovered a Bungles fumble on a punt return at the Cincy 1-yard line that turned into a touchdown for the Steelers. Speaking of special teams, WR Antonio Brown returned a punt 67-yards for a touchdown, his second TD of the game. And we were able to hear some less familiar names make contributions: LB Terence Garvin (who blew up the Bungles punter on the Brown return), DL Ziggy Hood (fumble recovery), LB Vince Williams, C Cody Wallace, T Kelvin Beechum and NT Al Woods. Good job!

2)The Bad-As stated above, LB Terence Garvin's block on Cincy P Kevin Huber was really bad. Bad meaning good. Another bad thing about the game, this one bad meaning bad, was that LB LaMarr "Love the Tub" Woodley was injured for what seems like the millionth time in his Steelers career. Those of you with #56 jerseys may want to ask Santa for a new one for Christmas with a different player's name and number.

3)The Ugly-Sorry, Mrs. Black-N-Gold still has issues because this team still has them. The offense came out guns-a-blazing in the first half, via the no-huddle. The Steelers tied the franchise record for most points in the 1st quarter at 21. In the second half, the offense was flickering. The O also only converted a measly 2 of 10 third downs. The special teams were not without their faults, either, giving up 150 yards on kick returns. I also couldn't help but wonder why they can't play a complete 60 minutes. Inconsistency continues to haunt this team.

The Steelers still have a slim shot at the playoffs as we look at the standings. The Bungles still lead the AFC North at 9-5. The Baltimorons are second at 8-6. The Steelers follow at 6-8. With their latest loss, the Clowns round out the division at 4-10. The Steelers will battle the Green Bay Packers on the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field on Sunday. We'll see if the black-n-gold can bring Green Bay a lump of coal for Christmas. Let's Go Steelers!!!!!!

Blow the Leafs away! )The Pens penalty kill has not allowed a goal all month (17 kills). Don't let the Leafs take advantage of the man-advantage! 3)The Leafs have lost 9 of their last 10 road games. If it's "3" it's for me! 2)In their last 13 home games, Detroit is a paltry 2-5-6. Time for a home invasion, Pens-style! 3)Detroit will start Jonas Gustavsson in goal tonight. In 6 career games versus the Pens, Gustavsson is 2-3-1 with a 3.63 GAA. Fire up the Red Wings with some Goals, Goals, Goals! Let's Go Pens!!!

These are your keys to tonight's game. 1)In their last 10 games, New Jersey is 3-6-1 while the Pens have gone 7-2-1. Kick 'em while they're down! 2)The Pens lead the league, converting 26.1% of their power plays. Take advantage of the man-advantage! 3)New Jersey has won 4 of the last 5 versus the Pens. Turn our luck around and demolish that jagoff Jagr and the rest of the Jersey Boys. Crank up the Crue and score some Goals, Goals, Goals! Let's Go Pens!!!

As your Pittsburgh Steelers play the role of spoiler the rest of the way (unless, there is a Christmas miracle), Mrs. Black-N-Gold can't help but wonder what changes are in store for her favorite football team. Considering, thus far, the Steelers once-vaunted D has allowed 11 plays of 50 yards or more this season, changes may be afoot on the defensive side of the football. At various parts of the season, people were calling for long-time defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau's resignation. While I'd hate to see LeBeau go, maybe a change would do both him and the Steelers defenders good. However, it has long been figured that veteran linebackers coach Keith Butler was the coordinator-in-waiting. Fans seem to think that LeBeau's schemes are tired and out-dated. I'll bet the apple wouldn't fall far from the tree with Butler. My guess is the Steelers will pull an "Arians" with LeBeau and say he's "retiring" just to force him out the door. While they're busy cleaning house, take a long look at some of your favorite Steelers on defense, it may be the last chance you get. Will fans be able to "fear the beard" one more time or is DE Brett Keisel going to, possibly, finish out his Steelers career on the sidelines? Curse S Ryan Clark for leading with his helmet while you still can. He's a free agent after this season and may be heading for a career behind the mike. Has LB LaMarr Woodley eaten and lollygagged his way out of Pittsburgh? There's speculation that CB Ike Taylor may be moved to safety if they don't cut him outright. And, enjoy seeing S Troy Polamalu being Troy while we're still able. Cap restrictions may prevent all of these veterans from being cut but it's clear, their best days are behind them. It's time for the Steelers to sink or swim with the young guys because they're drowning with the old ones. Like many, I'll be sorry to see them go and I'd hate to see them wear any colors besides black-n-gold. Remember what an ugly sight it was to see Franco in a Seahawks uniform and Iron Mike play for KC? Former players Aaron Smith and James Farrior knew when to hang up their cleats. I just hope when the time comes, we don't have to push these players out the door and that the ones who take their places will have long illustrious careers like those before them. DEAR SANTA

Dear Santa,

I've been a good little black-n-gold fan all year. I do all of my chores, say my prayers, and eat all of my vegetables. Below is my wish list for Christmas. Come through with these wishes and I'll make sure I leave you Eat 'N Park smiley cookies and some Iron City beer this year. Thanks, Santa!

For the Penguins-Please continue to give them young, healthy bodies from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton until the big boys are healed and ready to roll. Also, take extra special care of Sidney Crosby and bring him an MVP trophy. Keep Marc-Andre Fleury's head on straight, especially for a playoff run. And, of course, please bring our Penguins another Stanley Cup trophy.

For the Pirates-Please give them another winning/playoff season. Also, give them a combination of any or all of the following: power hitting rightfielder, power hitting first baseman, a shortstop with a good bat, an innings-eating starting pitcher, some bench players. Keep MVP Andrew McCutchen happy and healthy. Help Pedro Alvarez make contact with the ball more often than not. And, if you're feeling up to it, how about amping up the postseason request and give the Pirates a World Series Championship?

For the Steelers-Please give them a capable coach that knows how to tell time, develop players and distribute timeouts judiciously. Please, please give the Steelers some miracle draft picks or the Fountain of Youth as they'll have to keep their older players for one more year. Please give Coach Tomlin a pair of dancing shoes and Antonio Brown a ruler. Also, please put the "D" back in the defense. While you're at it, I know this will be a tough one, please give the Steelers another Lombardi Trophy.

It was a cold, snowy, dreary day on Sunday as your Pittsburgh Steelers dropped their second straight game, dashing their playoff hopes in a 34-28 home loss to the Miami Dolphins. Mrs. Black-N-Gold brings you the Good, the Bad and the Ugly from Sunday's defeat.

1)The Good-During another playoff-free season, QB Ben Roethlisberger and WR Antonio Brown continue to be the few bright spots for the offense. Ben was 23 for 39 passing for 349 yards and 3 touchdowns. He wasn't intercepted but did lose a fumble on a sack. It ultimately lead to a Miami touchdown. Congrats to Ben for becoming the Steelers all-time leader in touchdown passes, surpassing Hall of Famer Terry Bradshaw. I'm sure it's small consolation for Ben, though. Meanwhile, AB had 5 catches for 137 yards and 1 touchdown. Unfortunately, what most fans will remember about Brown in this game was that on the final, five-lateral play of the game, it was Brown that stepped out of bounds at the 13 on what could have been the game-tying TD. Honorable mention has to be made to LB Jason Worilds and DE Cam Heyward. On a day when the defense allowed Miami to score their highest point total all season, these two were the few silver linings in an otherwise cloudy day. They accounted for the Steelers 3 sacks, Worilds with 2 and Heyward with 1. Worilds also recorded 3 TFLs and 1 QB hit, along with 8 total tackles, all solo. Heyward registered 2 TFLs, 2 QB hits and 10 tackles, 7 of them solo. It's  shame it was too little, too late.

2)The Bad-There is no other way to describe the defense today without using expletives (Mrs. Black-N-Gold tries to keep it clean). Sure, S Troy Polamalu had the Steelers first pick 6 since the '08 AFC Championship game. Given the outcome of the game, we sure could have used more. The Steelers allowed RB Daniel Thomas to run all over them for 105 yards on 16 carries and 1 touchdown. They also let TE Charles Clay have a career day as he torched them for 7 catches of 97 yards and 2 touchdowns. CB Cortez Allen and Troy couldn't even stop Clay together on a crucial 12 yard TD reception in the 4th quarter.

3)The Ugly-During a 5-8 season, we've certainly seen our share of "ugly". I'm afraid a lot of it has been the same old, same old. The Steelers again played undisciplined football, especially late in the game, totaling up 9 penalties for 63 yards. And, of course, there was the usual clock mismanagement and ill-advised usage of timeouts. I know the Steelers won't let Tomlin go, as many fans would like. However, if/when the time (pun always intended) does come, can the question "Can you tell time?" please be the first one asked to prospective employees?

Looking at the standings, at least the Steelers aren't in last place. Cincy won and continue to be the top dog in the division. The Baltimorons also won and are in second place at 7-6. Then comes the Steelers, playing for pride. The Clowns round out the AFC North at 4-9 following their latest loss.

The Steelers have until Sunday night to live with this latest loss. It's Cincy and the Steelers at Heinz Field. Can the Steelers avoid a 3rd straight defeat and 4th home loss of the season? We'll have to wait and see. Let's Go Steelers!!!!!!

BLUES N'AT

I recently purchased "House" actor Hugh Laurie's second blues CD, "Didn't It Rain". I must admit, at first I was skeptical. What does an English actor know about the blues? But just like his doctor alter ago on television, Laurie has the cure for what ails you. One listen of Laurie and the Copper Bottom Band, and I was transformed back to a time and place such as the Cotton Club during prohibition. Laurie and his band transport the listener to the life and times of the likes of WC Handy, Champion Jack Dupree and Jelly Roll Morton. There is an appearance by the legendary Taj Mahal as he takes the lead vocals on "Vicksburg Blues". And vocalists Gaby Moreno and Jean McClain both put a firm but feminine touch on the songs. I especially like "Kiss of Fire" with it's Latin Feel. Another favorite is "'One For My Baby". It's as if you're sitting at the bar with Hugh and the band as the bartender gives you that one last drink. The entire CD has the style and mood of an era that is long gone and sorely missed. Hugh Laurie and the Copper Bottom Band are just what the doctor ordered on "Didn't It Rain". Until next time, boys and girls. Keep it bluesy.

THE BULLPEN

The calendar has turned to December and the MLB hot stove is heating up faster than a furnace in sub-zero temperatures. So far, your Pittsburgh Pirates have been minor players in the latest wheelings and dealings. They did not tender a qualifying offer to RH A.J. Burnett, making him a free agent. RF Marlon Byrd signed with Philly for 2 years at $16 million. 1B Justin Morneau is a free agent that appears on the move. On top of that, the Pirates designated both 1B/RF Garrett Jones and C Michael McKenry for assignment. The only significant move the Bucs have made, thus far, is trading a player to be named later for C Chris Stewart. Not really setting the world on fire, are they? Fear not, Pirates-faithful. There are still lots o' free agents on the market and the Pirates still have holes to fill. 1B James Loney, 1B/OF Corey Hart, SS Rafael Furcal, and 1B Mike Napoli are some of the names that are being tossed around in the Pirates direction. The MLB winter meetings begin next week in Orlando. There is still plenty of time and plenty of talent available for the Pirates to re-load for another playoff run in 2014. GM Neal Huntington is just biding his time, waiting for the next Francisco Liriano or Russell Martin to emerge. Can't wait for pitchers and catcher to report! Let's Go Bucs!!!!!

Your Pittsburgh Steelers' game against the Baltimorons may be over but the ramifications of Coach Tomlin's actions have created a ripple effect throughout the league. In case you have been in a food coma for the past several days and missed it, the NFL is considering taking action against Coach Cliché for possible sideline interference during Thursday night's game. Baltimore kick returner Jacoby Jones was sprinting down the sidelines past several Steelers players on the way to a possible touchdown. Coach Cliché looked like he may have been the only Steeler close enough to stop him. He was so close that it looked like he considered reaching out and tripping Jones, thus preventing a touchdown. Ultimately, Jones was caught and tackled by Cortez Allen. Had the coach not possibly interfered, Jones may have taken it to the house. Instead, Baltimore settled for one of five field goals and won the game 22-20. The league will now review the incident and determine if it warrants a fine, a suspension, or even cost the Steelers a draft pick, something they can ill-afford to lose. If could also cost Tomlin a spot on the league's competition-committee. Whatever the penalty may be, it has also created much embarrassment for Tomlin and his bosses, the Rooney family. What kind of an example does this send to his players when the coach can't even follow the rules? Will the Rooneys take it upon themselves to mandate some type of penalty for the coach, as well? Whatever the league decides, it looks like Coach Cliché will have his toys taken away from him like he did to his players earlier in the season. Embarrassment after embarrassment. Get it together, guys. Let's Go Steelers!!!!!!

Your Pittsburgh Steelers suffered a Thanksgiving night defeat at the hands of the Baltimorons, 22-20. Mrs. Black-N-Gold has recovered from her turkey day hangover to bring to you the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly from Thursday's loss. '

1)The Good-Looking at the stats from this game, the Steelers did look pretty good, except for the final score. Once again, QB Ben Roethlisberger was not sacked and the offense did not turn the ball over. This trend may change as C Fernando Velasco suffered a season-ending injury during the game.  LB Jason Worilds continues to impress in place of LaMarr Woodley. Worilds recorded 10 tackles, 6 solo, with 2 sacks, 1 tackle for loss and 3 QB hits. Pretty soon the Steelers will have to make a decision regarding Worilds as he becomes an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season.

2)The Bad-Special teams weren't so special. There was a flubbed field goal attempt that could have been the deciding factor in the game. The special teams also gave up a back-braking 73 yard kick return to Jacoby Jones that lead to 1 of 5 Baltimoron field goals.

3)The Ugly-What is uglier than WR Emmanuel Sanders allowing the game-tying pass for the two-point conversion to go throw his hands? How about that fact that at 5-7 the Steelers dim playoff hopes appear to be disappearing faster than Black Friday sales items? The Steelers D also had a hard time getting off the field on 3rd downs, allowing 10 of 17 to the Baltimorons.

It's never a good thing when your playoff hopes rest in the hands of so many others. The Steelers had an opportunity to take care of business and failed. They may have to settle for the role of spoilers, again, the rest of the way. They have until next Sunday to live with this latest loss and see where they go from there. Winner, winner, chicken dinner! Your Pittsburgh Steelers won their third consecutive game on Sunday as they defeated the Cleveland Clowns 27-11. Mrs. Black-N-Gold now brings to you the Good, the Bad and the Ugly from Sunday's victory.

1)The Good-You have to love the performance the D had on Sunday. They held the Clowns to a measly 11 points, they sacked Cleveland QBs 5 times and they had 4 takeaways that led to 17 points, including a pick-6 from CB William Gay, who also had a sack. S Troy Polamalu looked like the Troy of old as he forced 2 fumbles and registered a sack. NT Al Woods recorded 2 sacks as well, playing for the injured Steve McLendon. The defense also held Cleveland to 6 of 17 third downs and just 55 yards rushing. LB Jason Worilds continues to make a case for more playing time as he had 5 tackles, 3 of them solo, and 6 QB hits. A job well done, D, except.....

2)The Bad-The Defense allowed Cleveland WR Josh Gordon 14 catches for 237 yards and a touchdown. Gordon is a star on the rise, one of the few that Cleveland has. The Steelers will face this young man twice a season for many years to come so they'd better find a way to cover him. Keep an eye on Gordon in the final week of the season when these teams meet again.

3)The Ugly-What can I say? It was Cleveland. For a team that is/was in the playoff hunt, they sure didn't look it. Before getting knocked out of the game, QB Jason Campbell was 14 of 22 for 124 yards, no TDs, 2 sacks and a 78.6 passer rating. His understudy, Brandon Weeden was even worse, going 13 of 30. He did manage the 1 touchdown to Gordon but also through the pick to Gay. He finished with a paltry passer rating of 64.4

All in all, it was business as usual for Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger. Ben is now 16-1 versus Cleveland, winning 6 straight as the offensive line allowed no sacks. Job well done.

The Steelers have little time to celebrate this divisional win as they ready themselves for a Thanksgiving road trip to battle the Baltimorons, who also won. Cincy was idle. That means, at 7-4, Cincy is still in the driver's seat in the AFC North. The Steelers and Baltimorons are now tied at 5-6. And it is Cleveland in the basement with a 4-7 record.

Get ready to feast on Flacco and the Baltimorons on Thursday. Let's Go Steelers!!!!!!

BLUES N'AT

Two of the greatest rock/blues guitarists in history celebrate their birthdays within a week of each other. The bad news is, neither is still with us to celebrate. The good news is that they each left their own indelible mark on the guitar world as well legacies that have spanned generations. Duane Allman, of the Allman Brothers Band, was born on November 20, 1946. Jimi Hendrix was born November 27 1942.

After leaving the U.S. Army, where he reportedly slept with his guitar (that's dedication!), Jimi Hendrix cut his teeth performing on what was called "chitlin' circuit", backing up such acts as Little Richard and the Isley Brothers. Jimi was discovered by the Animals' Chas Chandler who wanted to leave performing and became Jimi's manager. Chandler soon teamed Jimi up with drummer Mitch Mitchell and bassist Noel Redding. He dubbed them the Jimi Hendrix Experience. They were every bit the power rock trio. Jimi burst onto the American music scene when the Experience played at the Monterrey Pop Festival in 1967. Jimi wowed the crowd with his playing and his pyrotechnics. He blew them away with his performance and left them awe-struck when he capped his set by setting his guitar on fire. From there, Hendrix's career was on fire. Unfortunately, Hendrix was like a meteor, burning bright and then flaming out. The Experience experienced growing pains and disbanded. Hendrix formed Gypsy Sun and Rainbows, turning in a stunning performance at Woodstock. That band morphed into Band of Gypsys. Management issues hampered Jimi's ability to make music. He eventually retreated to London, the city that first embraced Jimi as a guitar god. Ultimately, Jimi died far too young in London at age 27 on September 18, 1970.

Duane Allman was born on November 20, 1946 in Nashville, TN. Duane was an in-demand session guitarist before hitting it big with his own group, the Allman Brothers Band. Duane laid down the lead for such artists as Boz Scaggs, Aretha Franklin and King Curtis while the Allmans toiled in virtual obscurity. They finally developed a following of their blues-jazz masterpieces while touring extensively. Duane and Eric Clapton formed a mutual admiration that led to Duane playing some of his most inspired work with Derek and the Dominoes. The Allman Brothers Band became a favorite act of legendary concert promoter Bill Graham. So much so that Graham chose the Allmans to play the final set at the historic Fillmore East. Like Hendrix, Duane left an extensive body of exceptional work after an unexpected death at the age of 24 on October 29, 1971.

Both guitarists leave behind countless hours of blistering licks and have influenced multitudes of fret masters. To "experience" classic Hendrix, check out his three albums with the Experience,  1)Are You Experienced 2)Axis: Bold as Love 3)Electric Ladyland and Band of Gypsys, recorded live at the Fillmore East in 1970. To get your Allman joy, try the Allman Brothers' Idlewild South and At Fillmore East as well as Derek and the Dominoes' Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs. Both artists have plenty more music out there but these albums highlight why both Jimi and Duane are typically  mentioned in the conversation of greatest of all time.
