As the NHL lockout approaches its first week, let’s take a
look at a few observations.
1)There have been no negotiations since September 12 and
none are scheduled.
2)The NHL preseason has been canceled through September 30.
3)NHL teams are laying off staff.
4)NHL staffers could have salaries cut and work weeks shortened
if the strike lasts through October 1.
What about commissioner Gary Bettman? He and the owners want
the players to take a cut. Will Bettman be layed off or asked to take a pay
cut? This is the man who’s had 3 work stoppages on his watch. Keep your fingers crossed that the whole
season isn’t locked out again. Maybe I’ll watch peewee hockey instead.
