BLUES N'AT

Today Mrs. Black-N-Gold continues her celebration in honor of Eric Clapton's 70th birthday. She honors Slowhand today by looking at his hit album "461 Ocean Boulevard". Clapton's second solo album is one of Mrs. Black-N-Gold's favorites. It's got a laid-back kind of vibe, probably indicative of the mood in the studio. The album was named after the house that was rented by EC while he recorded this in Miami. Clapton recorded this album following his recovery from heroin addiction.

The albums kicks off with a rollicking version of the blues standard "Motherless Children". Although the song itself is a somber one, from Clapton's first guitar licks, it's more of an uptempo tune on this album. Next, Clapton slows it down for "Give Me Strength". "Dear Lord, give me strength to carry on" could be EC asking for strength to help him kick the heroin habit. The old Johnny Otis hit "Willie and the Hand Jive" follows. Covered by many, Clapton's version was released as a single that reached #26 on the Billboard Top 40. The following track is "Get Ready" a Clapton collaboration with his backup singer, Yvonne Elliman. Clapton gives Elliman a chance to step up to the mic and shine. Next up is Clapton's version of the Bob Marley hit, "I Shot the Sheriff". EC received a lot of flack for this song. Media members and fans alike scoffed at the white, English bluesman trying his hand at Marley's reggae classic. Originally, Clapton didn't want to release the song on this album, but was later persuaded. Good thing for him as it charted #1 on Billboard's Hot 100.

Side two gets bluesy with Clapton's cover of the Willie Dixon penned "I Can't Hold Out" (otherwise known as "Talk to Me Baby"). Dig the guitar solo in this one, classic Clapton. "Please Be with Me" follows. Written by former Allman Brothers compatriot, the late Scott Boyer, this has always been one of Mrs. Black-N-Gold's favorites. Hearing Clapton signing the lines "won't you please read my signs, be a gypsy. Tell me what I hope to find deep within me. Because you can find my mind, please be with me" and hearing the beautiful guitar in between lyrics always blows Mrs. Black-N-Gold away. Another favorite is next with "Let It Grow". "Plant your love and let it grow"! The guitar work on this reminds me of Slowhand in his Derek & the Dominos days. Clapton pays tribute to another blues great on the next tune, Robert Johnson's "Steady Rollin' Man". It keeps this masterpiece just steady rollin' along. The closing number is a rockin' little tune called "Mainline Florida" written by Clapton's guitarist, George Terry. Digging the guitar in this one, too.

Mrs. Black-N-Gold can't help but admit it, she's crushing on this disc. Back when it was released in 1974, I guess many critics dismissed this. How can they do that? This album is like a day at the beach. You can just smell the ocean air and her the waves. What better why to celebrate Slowhand? Until next time, boys and girls. Keep It Bluesy!

BLUES N'AT

Mrs. Black-N-Gold hasn't been too bluesy lately but today she has a blues birthday that is definitely worth celebrating. The great Eric Clapton turns 70 years young today. Clapton has always been vocal about his love affair with the blues, dating all the way back to his days in the Yardbirds and John Mayall's Bluesbreakers through to his time with Cream and well on into his solo career. He wears the blues on his sleeve like a badge of honor. He's paid homage to many of his blues heroes, especially on the albums "Riding with the King", his collaboration with the legendary BB King and "Me and Mr. Johnson" EC's tribute to the grandfather of the blues, Robert Johnson.

1994's "From the Cradle" was Slowhand's first all-blues album and what an album it is! It starts off with Leroy Carr's "Blues Before Sunrise". Love Clapton's guitar work on this one. And the piano puts you in the mind of Carr's original version. The only difference is Clapton's version is a little more uptempo. "Third Degree", the Eddie Boyd/Willie Dixon song slows it down to a crawling blues. You believe Clapton when he says he "can't stand no more of this third degree". Clapton's guitar and the piano and horns play off each other well in this one. EC plays tribute to Lowell Fulson next with "Reconsider Baby". He continues to burn up the fretboard on this one. Willie Dixon's hit "Hoochie Coochie Man" follows. Every blues fan knows this one and has heard hundreds of versions of it. Clapton gives it a good go-round. Another Eddie Boyd song makes an appearance, "Five Long Years". Clapton ask the musical question "have you ever been mistreated"? You can hear the pain in Clapton's voice and in the wail of his guitar. You just know he's been mistreated. Next, Clapton jumps into "I'm Tore Down", with it's jumping-jiving vibe. The tempo slows back down for another Leroy Carr number, "How Long Blues", a nice, mellow blues.

The second half of the CD picks back up with "Goin' Away Baby" by Jimmy Rogers (credited to James Lane, Rogers's birth name). The harmonica work on here plays well off Clapton's guitar licks.
Another Rogers song, "Blues Leave Me Alone" follows.  It's a steady rolling blues tune. "Sinner's Prayer" by Lowell Glenn/Lowell Fulson follows. Lord have mercy if you don't feel the blues on this one! Clapton gives us his take on the standard "Motherless Child" next. This is not to be confused with "Motherless Children", also covered by Clapton. He's just a "motherless child that don't know right from wrong". Elmore James gets the EC treatment next with "It Hurts Me Too" .Clapton really reaches into his gut to bring the pain on this one with both his singing and the singing of his guitar. He follows that up with more burning blues, "Someday After a While" by Freddy King/Sonny Thompson. Don't worry, EC doesn't forget to show some love to the great Muddy Waters. "Standin' Round Crying" does McKinley Morganfield proud. Then the CD drifts into "Driftin'". Clapton's got the driftin' blues on this one, for sure! Willie Dixon gets one more shot with "Groaning the Blues". It's a perfect ending to a perfect blues tribute album by one of the blues biggest fans.

And blues fans of all kinds should enjoy this album. You get all the greats with the Clapton touch added in for good measure. If you don't have this CD, how can you call yourself a blues fan? Happy Birthday to the one-and-only, Eric Clapton. Clapton will hold a birthday celebration at Madison Square Garden in NYC in May. It will be two nights of amazing guitar work from a one-of-a-kind artist. If you can't make it, get "From the Cradle" and celebrate some fantastic blues tunes. Until next time, boys and girls. Keep It Bluesy!

SLAP SHOTS

Donna needs a donut and we need a win, it's a great day for hockey! Your Pittsburgh Penguins desperately need to find the win column this afternoon as they faceoff against the Arizona Coyotes at Consol Energy Center. These are your keys for today's game. 1)The Pens have dropped 2 straight, are 3-5-2 in their last 10 and are sinking like a stone in the playoff race. Drop an anvil on the Coyotes! 2)The Pens won the only matchup of these 2 teams this year, defeating the Coyotes last week, 3-1. The Pens have won 4 of the last 6 vs AZ. Crank up the Crue and fire up the Goals, Goals, Goals! 3)This is the first of back-to-back weekend games for the Pens. This season, they have an 8-3-3 record in the first of back-to-backs. #9 would be fine! Let's Go Pens!!!

BLACK-N-GOLD NEWS

Extra! Extra! Read all about it. It's time for another edition of the Black-N-Gold News. Since there is a Pens game on Sunday, Mrs. Black-N-Gold gives you the latest news from the world of Black-N-Gold today.

                    BLACK-N-GOLD NEWS

Penguins-Our Pens woes continue as the Pens have been playing woefully bad. They dropped a 3-2 OT loss at home to St Louie on Tuesday. Last night they lost in Carolina to an awful Hurricanes team, 5-2.  Now they can't even beat the teams they're supposed to beat. With the Pens in danger of missing the playoffs, will first-year Coach Mike Johnston be one-and-done?  Injuries continue to burden them, too. C Evgeni Malkin and F Patric Horqvist are still out. Rumor is they may return to play during the back-to-back games this weekend versus Arizona and San Jose. Meanwhile, D Christian Ehrhoff is expected out several days with an upper-body injury. With only 8 games left in the regular season, the Pens need to get back in the win column now more than ever. Let's Go Pens!!!

Pirates-Our Pirates dropped another Grapefruit League game yesterday, losing to Atl 7-5. The loss evens their record at 10-10 with some ties thrown in. The good news is that CF Andrew McCutchen returned to the lineup on Tuesday. With an off day on Wednesday, there was a new-look Cutch on the field for yesterday's action. Cutch cut the dreads. It didn't impede his hitting ability as he went 2 for 3 with an RBI. Roster moves are expected to be announced this morning. Mrs. Black-N-Gold will keep you updated. One move that is being mentioned is regarding INF Jung Ho Kung. Word is that maybe a roster spot isn't as iron-clad as was anticipated. Kung did play in yesterday's game although he did get some time in at Pirate City on the off-day. Perhaps the Buccos will have Kung start the season in Indy to get some at-bats and some seasoning.

Steelers-The big news for our Steelers this week was the signing of OLB James Harrison to a 2-year deal. The Silverback decided to return to the Black-N-Gold instead of following Dick LeBeau to Tennessee. Another signing was made yesterday as the Steelers will bring back WR Darrius Heyward-Bey on a 1-year deal . Although he is considered a contributor on special teams, here's hoping Heyward-Bey can double his reception total of last season, all 3 catches worth. Almost one month until the draft begins on April 30. Let's Go Steelers!!!!!!

Call Arnold Slick from Turtle Crick 'cause it's a great day for hockey! Your Pittsburgh Penguins take their show on the road to Carolina tonight as they faceoff against the Hurricanes. These are your keys to tonight's game. 1)Following Tuesday's 3-2 OT home loss to St Louie, the Pens have dropped 5 of 6. Nothing would be fina than a win in Carolina! 2)Carolina at 26-36-10 with 62 points has been eliminated from the playoffs. The Pens are 40-22-11 and 91 points. Their recent freefall has them jokeying for playoff position. Get in the win column and get to the playoffs! 3)The Hurricanes are 27th in the league in goals per game with 2.2. The Pens have the 5th best goals against at 2.4. Stone the 'Canes! Let's Go Pens!!!

THE BULLPEN

It was a slow day here at the Black-N-Gold newsdesk. Any time it's uneventful, Mrs. Black-N-Gold's wheels start spinning in her head. Your Pittsburgh Pirates are less than 2 weeks away from the start of the regular season. As usual, Mrs. Black-N-Gold is concerned. The Grapefruit League standings show the Buccos at a mediocre 10-8 with a few ties thrown in for good measure. They've hardly played their regular starting lineup yet (although as Mrs. Black-N-Gold types these words, the Pirates were scheduled to start alot of the regulars in Tuesday afternoon's game). Those that have played, haven't looked all that impressive. Which begs the question, "How important is spring training"?

Andrew McCutchen was penciled into his usual spot of centerfield and third in the batting order. This is the first start for Cutch since March 12. Both the Pirates and Cutch insist he is a go for Opening Day. Apparently, Cutch doesn't need all of spring training to prepare for the regular season. LF Starling Marte took advantage of Cutch's absence by shifting over to center and posting impressive stats. He has a batting line of .395/.410/.605 and an OPS of 1.016. Can we expect Marte to carry the party over into the regular season? Meanwhile, while Cutch is out, fans have been treated to the likes of Wily Garcia, Gorkys Hernandez and Mel Rojas, Jr. Mrs. Black-N-Gold can't help but think it's time to send the scrubs to their respective assignments and get your starters on the field. If they're hurt, as in Cutch's case, fine. Why don't you start players who are actually going to make the trip north with the team and need the work?

The pitching is a bit harder to gauge. Sometimes you have a hurler on the mound that is just working on his pitches or fine-tuning his delivery. Mrs. Black-N-Gold remembers last spring, RH Edinson Volquez had a horrible exhitibtion season. His ERA ballooned over 9. Yet, there he was, leading the Pirates staff in the regular season, through to his start in the Wildcard Game. Several pitchers, both starters and relievers, that are being counted on to contribute this season are suffering from over-inflated ERAs: AJ Burnett is 6.39, Antonio Bastardo is 7.50, Charlie Morton is 7.71 and Jeff Locke is 9.00. Meanwhile, Arquimedes Caminero, Radhames Liz and Vance Worley are drawing raves.

It's all quite maddening. Mrs. Black-N-Gold figures every player is different and knows their body better than anyone else. Their comfort levels are different, too. What may work for one player may not for another. Who would have expected C Tony Sanchez to come into camp, tear the cover off the ball at a .440 clip and make the team? He gained valuable playing time while C Chris Stewart has been hampered by a bad hammy.

Then there is the curious case of INF Jung Ho Kang. After signing the Korean import the Pirates declared that he would not be sent to the minors but would start the season on the Major League roster. After having some time off, Kang played yesterday and lowered his spring average to .111. Manager Clint Hurdle is expected to give Kang some extra at bats at Pirate City today while the rest of the team has the day off. Hopefully the extra work will help Kang find his way.

So there you have it. Everyone takes a different approach to spring training. Some players need to work on things while others might not need to work so hard. While Mrs. Black-N-Gold wishes that the next time she hears the name "Pedro" in reference to spring training, it had better be regarding the Pirates 1B Alvarez and not the light-hitting INF Florimon. I'd rather see Liz pitch than Leesman. But I guess Mrs. Black-N-Gold needs to chill out and wait for the games to matter. Let the games begin! Let's Go Bucs!!!!!

SLAP SHOTS

You can spit shine your shoes, Mabel, 'cause it's a hockey night in Pittsburgh! Your Pittsburgh Penguins are back on the home ice of Consol Energy Center tonight as they faceoff against the St Louie Blues. These are your keys for tonight's game. 1)St Louie's #3 power play (22.7%) goes toe-to-toe with the Pens #2 penalty kill (85.6%). Don't let them take advantage of the man-advantage! 2)The Pens putrid power play (#8 at 19.8%) did manage to score with the extra man in Saturday night's 3-1 win at Arizona. Hopefully they can take advantage of St Louie's #10-ranked PK (82.8%). Man-up! 3)St Louie is on a skid. Coming off a 2-1 OT loss at Detroit on Sunday, the Blues have lost 3 straight. #4 would be great with Goals, Goals, Goals! Let's Go Pens!!!

50-YARD LINE

Yesterday, your Pittsburgh Steelers made news as they signed OLB James Harrison to a 2 year deal, bringing back the former Defensive Player of the Year for another go-round. Mrs. Black-N-Gold feels the move smacks of desperation on the Steelers part. But what else could they do? They are stuck between a rock and a hard place due to the sudden "retirement" of free agent Jason Worilds and the lack of impact from first round pick Jarvis Jones.

Clearly Deebo's best days are behind him. He'll be 37 years old at the start of the season, no spring chicken for an outside linebacker, especially in a 3-4 defense that relies heavily on pressure from the outside. Brought out of retirement last season to help with the depleted linebacking corps, Harrison played in only 11 games. He had his moments but finished with only 5.5 sacks and 29 total tackles in a limited role. The strip/sack used to be #92's calling card but no more. He forced no turnovers last season.

Harrison just made the announcement over the weekend that he would make a decision on returning to Pittsburgh or following Dick LeBeau to Tennessee. He must have made up his mind quickly as the signing was made public less than 24 hours later.

Harrison may still be able to contribute to the defense in a part time role. And, who knows, perhaps he can help light a fire under some of the young guys, notably Jones and another first rounder, Ryan Shazier. The problem is, the Steelers are forced to continue to put their eggs in the greybeard's basket. The Steelers have no one to blame for their desperation moves but themselves.

Although the current regime of GM Kevin Colbert and Coach Mike Tomlin have found some gems in the draft such as WR Antonio Brown and RB Le'Veon Bell, they have left the defensive cupboard mostly bare. Ziggy Hood (1st round pick), Alamada Ta'amu (4th) , Thaddeus Gibson (4th) and Bruce Davis (3rd) are just some of the many examples of defensive misses in the draft for the Steelers. Not to mention a 2nd round pick on Worilds. It seems that when Worlids didn't break the bank as expected on the open market, he decided to suddenly "retire". This, even though the Steelers were willing to bring him and his measly 7.5 sacks back on a long-term deal. See how desperate the Steelers have become for some D?

Before this May's draft, the Steelers personal department and coaching staff may want to take a long, hard look at how they are evaluating and developing players. Jones is a shining example of this. True he has been injured more often than not (another red flag). However, when he is on the field, he rarely contributes to the defense. Shazier is in danger of suffering from the same affliction. Although he will get a bit of a pass considering last year was just his rookie season.

In other words, the Steelers need to fix the D with more than duct tape in the form of Harrison and a prayer in the form of this year's draft. As always, Mrs. Black-N-Gold says "put the "D" back in the defense". Let's Go Steelers!!!!!!

BLACK-N-GOLD NEWS

Good Sunday morning one and all! It's time for another edition of the latest from Mrs. Black-N-Gold, the Black-N-Gold News. Don't forget to keep it here for the most up-to-date information on your favorite Black-N-Gold teams.

BLACK-N-GOLD NEWS
Penguins-Our Pens finally got back in the win column with a 3-1 victory over AZ last night. Unfortunately, it was the only W they managed in a woeful week. To make matters worse, they continue to be without the services of C Evegni Malkin and F Patric Hornqvist. Although they aren't expected to be out for extended periods of time, Geno and Horny's absence clearly is a blow to the offense. Hopefully they can return in time for Tuesday night's battle with the Blues at Consol Energy Center. Let's Go Pens!!!

Pirates-Our Pirates will give the ball to LH Francisco Liriano on Opening Day in Cincy. Manager Clint Hurdle announced his rotation to start the season: Liriano, RH Gerrit Cole, RH AJ Burnett, RH Vance Worley or LH Jeff Locke and RH Charlie Morton. This leaves the Cole Train in line to pitch the home opener vs. Detroit. The Buccos also made some roster moves this week. They announced that C Tony Sanchez will make the trip north with the club as C Chris Stewart deals with hamstring issues. RH Nick Kingham and C Elias Diaz, who both had strong camps, were sent to Triple A. Also, the Pirates continued to leave CF Andrew McCutchen out of the lineup due to a "lower body injury". The Pirates don't seem concerned about Cutch but Mrs. Black-N-Gold is beginning to worry. We only have a few more weeks until April 6. Mrs. Black-N-Gold would feel a little more comfortable if she saw Cutch on the field a little. Could he possibly be in the lineup for today's game against the Houston Astros? We can catch it on MLB Network to see. Let's Go Bucs!!!!!

Steelers-Not much activity from our Steelers this week following last week's signing of QB Ben Roethlisberger to an extension and the free agent acquisition of RB De'Angelo Williams. In fact, owner Art Rooney II said that he didn't expect the Steelers to obtain any more free agents this offseason. That may explain why CBs Patrick Robinson and Sterling Moore, both expected to visit the Steelers offices this past week, signed elsewhere. Mrs. Black-N-Gold hopes the Steelers scouts are working feverishly to load up during May's draft. We're going to need it. Let's Go Steelers!!!!!!

These are your keys for tonight's game. 1)The Pens have lost 4 in a row, scoring only 2 goals during this drought. Crank up some Motley Crue and Goals, Goals, Goals, baby! 2)AZ has lost 16 of 17 and 6 straight. #7 would be great! 3)The Coyotes are 10-21-5 on home ice. They are in the midst of a 1-12-2 stretch at home. Despite the Pens recent woes, they're 18-10-7 on the road. Road Warriors! Let's Go Pens!!!

THE BULLPEN

It's a quiet day in the world of Black-N-Gold & Blues for Mrs. Black-N-Gold. Our Penguins are in a tailspin as the season unwinds. The Pirates are still a few weeks away from Opening Day as they continue to work in Bradenton. Our Steelers made some noise last week with some signings but have not been heard from since. And it's sometimes hard for Mrs. Black-N-Gold to keep up on recent blues happenings when she can't always afford tickets to the latest shows or the newest CDs. Fear not, Mrs. Black-N-Gold continues her goal of a blog a day in 2015.

As you may have guessed, Mrs. Black-N-Gold loves baseball, especially her Pirates. What she also enjoys is a good movie about the grand old game. So today, Mrs. Black-N-Gold presents to you her 5 Favorite Baseball Movies. If you haven't seen all of these fine pieces of baseball cinema, she highly recommends that you do so. Perhaps you have your own favorites such as "Field of Dreams" or "Angels in the Outfield". If so, feel free to share them with Mrs. Black-N-Gold and tell he why they're your favorite. You may change her mind or at least make her see the movie in a whole new light. Let's step up to the plate, shall we?

5)Fever Pitch-This is a romantic-comedy starring the likable Jimmy Fallon and Drew Barrymore, two actors that Mrs. Black-N-Gold feels you could sit down with and have a beer. Ok, it's not exactly about baseball but it does have the Red Sox improbable 2004 World Series run in the storyline. It's fun to see Fallon's character try to woo Barrymore's as he's carrying on his love affair with the BoSox. There are even cameos by some of the players. Of course, we also get to see Johhny Damon's "sweetest ass in the league". Sigh.

4)Pride of the Yankees-A movie about the Iron Horse, Lou Gehrig, starring Oscar-winning actor Gary Cooper. This black and white feature may seem old and outdated to some of you. To Mrs. Black-N-Gold, it never gets old. Cooper brings to life a true, larger-than-life figure, both on the field and off. For Pride of the Yankees, you're going to need a hanky, especially when Coop delivers the famous "Luckiest Man Alive" speech. There won't be a dry eye in the house.

3)Major League-You'll get plenty of laughs out of the original movie starring then-unknowns Charlie Sheen and Wesley Snipes as well as the hilarious Bob Uecker. Unfortunately, the studio decided to milk this one for all it's worth. Nothing beats the first Major League. The sequels were like replacement players during the strike of '94.

2)The Bad New Bears-This was another franchise Hollywood ran into the ground with sequels, a television show and a re-make. Except no substitutes. The original starring Oscar winners Walter Matthau and Tatum O'Neal is the real deal. Who could not love the underdog story of the woeful, ragtag Bears and their crumdgeon of a coach?

1)A League of Their Own-Batter up, hear that call.....Another movie with star power in the form of Academy Award winners Tom Hanks and Geena Davis. This movie is losely based on experiences of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League which ran from 1943-1954. The Penny Marshall-directed film reminded us that "girls are what you sleep with after the game, not what you coach during the game" as Hanks's character Jimmy Dugan spews. He also chastises that there is "no crying in baseball". He's wrong on both counts. Break out the tissue again as the ending always makes Mrs. Black-N-Gold cry.

So there you have it, some of Mrs. Black-N-Gold's favorite baseball movies to tide you over until first pitch on Opening Day. Now go get yourself some peanuts and crackerjacks and enjoy the show. Let's Go Bucs!!!!!

Mrs. Black-N-Gold is smiling like a butcher's dog 'cause it's a great day for hockey! Your Pittsburgh Penguins continue their road trip tonight as they faceoff against the Stars in Dallas. These are your keys for tonight's game. 1)The Pens have scored just 1 goal in their last 3 games, all losses, getting outscored 9-1. Find the net and find the win column with Goals, Goals, Goals! 2)In their last 8 games, the Pens are a porous 1 for 22 on the power play. Take advantage of the man-advantage! 3)The Stars are second in the league in scoring, averaging 3.1 goals per game. Bring the D to Big D! Let's Go Pens!!!

POT O'BLACK-N-GOLD

Mrs. Black-N-Gold is still feeling the effects of St. Patrick's Day. She got to wondering which Black-N-Gold team would be the next to reach the Pot O' Gold and win a championship.

Our Penguins last raised Lord Stanley's Cup during the 2008-09 season. Our Steelers collected another Lombardi Trophy on February 1, 2009 for the 2008 season. Our Pirates have suffered the longest drought, last winning a World Series in 1979.

For years, it looked like the Pens had the inside track on another championship. Considering they had arguably the best player in the NHL, C Sidney Crosby, and a core that consisted of C Evgeni Malkin, D Kris Letang and G Marc-Andre Fleury, the Pens were sure to add to their Cup total. The Pens have continued to play in the postseason, only to flame out when the calendar hit spring. Their springtime malaise even cost Ray Shero and Dan Bylsma their jobs after another early playoff exit last year. They continue to be a hot and cold team. Either they're red hot, one of the best teams in the league or they're as cold as the ice on which the game is played. It also appears there is a problem developing young talent, especially forwards as Shero left the cupboard bare when he was relieved of his GM duties. This season, new GM Jim Rutherford continued to mortgage the future by trading draft picks to supplement the current team. If these Pens don't go far this postseason, look for management to blow the whole thing up and start from scratch which will put the Pens even further behind in the championship sweepstakes.

The Pirates were the furthest from championship glory for two decades but have managed to make it to the postseason the past two years by way of the wildcard. Many pundits anticipate the Pirates taking a leap forward this year and challenge for the NL Central title. They have one of the best players in baseball, CF Andrew McCutchen, leading the way. They also feature many up-and-coming stars. The future looks bright for the Bucs as they have one of the highest rated farm systems in MLB. However, it remains to be seen whether or not usually tight-fisted owner Bob Nutting will open up the wallet even further to help push the team into elite status.

The Steelers looked to be going nowhere in 2012 and 2013, when they finished a mediocre 8-8 and missed the postseason. Their defense was a mixture of past-their-prime veterans and not-yet-there youngsters. This past season the fire OC Todd Haley contingent was quieted as QB Ben Roethlisberger, WR Antonio Brown and RB Le'Veon Bell racked up record-setting numbers to lead the team to an 11-5 record and an AFC North title. However, the Steelers ran into a roadblock in the first round of the playoffs, losing to the Baltimorons. The offense has a ton of upside but the defense still has a long way to go. The salary cap-strapped Steelers need to work some magic in both the draft and free agency to upgrade the D. Until they do and the Steelers become a complete team on both sides of the ball again, they won't make it to Stairway to Seven.

So there you have it. Mrs. Black-N-Gold couldn't really pronounce any of her favorite Black-N-Gold teams as the next champion. There is still work to be done by all three factions. But you know, Mrs. Black-N-Gold will ever-faithfully cheer her teams on and remain optimistic about the future. Let's Go Pens!!! Let's Go Bucs!!!!! Let's Go Steelers!!!!!!

SLAP SHOTS

Hop in the Cordova, we're going bowling 'cause it's a great day for hockey! Your Pittsburgh Penguins take their show on the road tonight somewhere in the swamps of Jersey as they faceoff against the Devils. These are your keys for tonight's game. 1)Sometimes the Pens play like they're one of the best teams in the league. Other times they play like they did this past weekend. The Boys of Winter went 0 for the weekend as they were outscored by a combined 7-1. True, Sid was a late scratch on Saturday and Geno got knocked out early but Sid was back on Sunday. Besides, you can't put all your eggs in the Sid/Geno basket and expect to win. You gotta want it to win it! 2)The Devils are 28th in the NHL in scoring, averaging 2.2 goals per game. To quote Kenny Rogers, "You gotta know when to hold 'em". Hold 'em! 3)After scoring a measly 1 goal over the weekend the Pens need to find the net and get back in the win column. Find the pot o' Goals, Goals, Goals! Let's Go Pens!!!

BLUES N'AT

It's time for green beer, corned beef & cabbage and Irish stew. St. Patrick's Day is tomorrow. To help celebrate, Mrs. Black-N-Gold looks at the life and career of one of Ireland's favorite sons, the late Phil Lynott, singer/songwriter/bassist for Thin Lizzy.

Born in England on August 20, 1949, Phil moved to Ireland as a wee lad o' 4 years old to live with his grandmother. Phil always took great pride in the fact that he was raised in Ireland. Young Phil was inspired by his uncle's record collection of Motown and the Mamas and the Papas. He began gigging in the local clubs of Dublin, as a singer, eventually moving to Clontarf.

He started fronting a band called "Karma Sutra". When they disbanded, Phil formed a band called "Skid Row" (not to be confused with the heavy metal band from the '80s) in 1968. By mid-1968 guitarist Gary Moore joined the fray. Phil took leave of the band for a time. Bassist Brendan Shiels took over in front. Shiels ultimately taught Phil to play the bass.

In late 1969, Phil formed Thin Lizzy. After years of touring the band scored a Top 10 hit. "Whiskey in the Jar" was Thin Lizzy's take on the traditional Irish song. 1976's "Jailbreak" album helped turn Thin Lizzy into stars worldwide. The disc featured the hit song "The Boys Are Back in Town" as well as the title track. While on tour with Rainbow, Phil contracted hepatitis and had to cancel the remaining dates. They followed up "Jailbreak" with "Bad Reputation", "Black Rose: A Rock Legend" and "Live and Dangerous". The band underwent numerous personnel changes while continuing to record and tour.

Phil developed a drug habit that would contribute to Thin Lizzy disbanding in 1983. By then, Phil had established a solo career with the release of 1980's "Solo in Soho". He continued to record and tour sometimes collaborating with former bandmate Moore. Phil tried his hand at another band, "Grand Slam" in 1984 but found it difficult to duplicate the success of Thin Lizzy.

Dependencies on drugs and alcohol factored into his passing. On January 4, 1986, at the age of 36, Phil Lynott passed away due to pneumonia and heart failure. But the memory remains. Metallica released their version of "Whiskey in the Jar" in 1998. Classic rock radio keeps "Jailbreak" and "The Boys Are Back in Town" in regular rotation. One of Ireland's favorite sons may be gone but he's not forgotten. Until next time, boys and girls. Keep It Bluesy!

In an effort to keep you as up-to-date as possible with the latest on everyone's favorite Black-N-Gold teams, Mrs. Black-N-Gold is going to begin a new weekly feature that will highlight the latest news on your Pittsburgh Penguins, Pirates and Steelers. It's called, appropriately enough, The Black-N-Gold News.

BLACK-N-GOLD NEWS
Penguins-The Pens are coming off a 2-0 home loss to Boston yesterday. C Sidney Crosby was a late scratch and C Evegeni Malkin left the game early following a hit from Boston's Chris Kelly. The Pens finish their homestand this afternoon vs. the Detroit Red Wings at 12:30pm on NBC. It's not known if Sid or Geno will play. We do know that G Marc-Andre Fleury will be in net for the Pens. Following this afternoon's game, the Pens are on the road for the next three. They'll begin that road trip Tuesday night when the puck drops at 7pm in New Jersey. Let's Go Pens!!!

Pirates-The Pirates continue to get their spring training work in at Bradenton. This afternoon's game against the Baltimore Orioles will be a Root Sports telecast at 1pm. CF Andrew McCutchen is not expected in the lineup. Cutch has missed the last few games due to a lower body injury. The Pirates made some roster moves yesterday when they re-assigned 5 players to their minor league camp-RHs Tyler Glasnow, Adrian Sampson, Wilfredo Boscan, and Angel Sanchez and OF Keon Broxton. Let's Go Bucs!!!!!

Steelers-The Steelers began the free agency period quietly this week. However, they ended it with a bang, announcing on Friday that they've inked QB Ben Roethlisberger to an extension. They also signed RB DeAngelo Williams to back-up Le'Veon Bell. Still no word on S Troy Polamalu's status with the team. The Steelers are expected to bring in free agent CB Patrick Robinson, formerly of the Saints, for a visit. Let's Go Steelers!!!!!!

SLAP SHOTS

Scratch my back with a hacksaw, it's a great day for hockey! Your Pittsburgh Penguins continue their homestand at Consol Energy Center as they faceoff against the Boston Bruins this afternoon. These are your keys for today's game. 1)The Pens have big back-to-back games this weekend. The Bruins are a hungry team battling for their playoff lives. Boston is coming off a 3-2 shootout win over Tampa Bay on Thursday. The Pens also won on Thursday, defeating Edmonton 6-4. Problem is the Oilers staked the Pens to a 4-0 lead in that game and the Pens almost let it slip away. The Pens and the fans need to treat this game like a playoff game and get geared up on all cylinders. Batter the Bruins with Goals, Goals, Goals, baby! 2)Both teams are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games. Boston has won 4 straight. #5 would not be great! 3)It would be nice to see the Pens (finally) get their revenge on Boston for their sweep from the playoffs back in 2013. Mrs. Black-N-Gold hopes to see Boston's Vezina-winning G Tuuka Rask go head-to-head with the Pens Vezina hopeful Marc-Andre Fleury. Flower Power! Let's Go Pens!!!

BLUES N'AT

On Sunday, April 26, music royalty will descend upon the Palace Theatre in Greensburg, PA as legendary guitarist Jeff Beck makes his way to the tri-state area.

Born June 24, 1944 Beck is one of three guitarists who cut their teeth in the Yardbirds. The others being some fellows named Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page.  His blend of blues, rock, jazz fusion has earned him multiple Grammy awards and the #5 ranking in Rolling Stone magazine's #100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time".  He has also been honored by induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame twice. He was inducted with the Yardbirds in 1992 and as a solo act in 2009.

10 year old Jeff sang with his church choir. He took up guitar as a teenager, even attempting to build his own axe. His early influences include Les Paul, Steve Cropper, and BB King. Like many English would-be musicians, Jeff attended art school. His sister introduced him to future Led Zeppelin guitarist Page. In the early 1960s Beck began gigging with local bands. He started out playing the hits of Buddy Holly and Gene Vincent. As his playing progressed, he gravitated to the blues.

He replaced Clapton in the Yardbirds on Page's recommendation, staying for less than 2 years. Tempers flared amongst the Yardbirds, leading to Beck's departure. He then completed his first solo recording "Beck's Bolero" in 1966 featuring Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, Keith Moon and Nicky Hopkins. It would become the B-side to his first single "Hi Ho Silver Lining". From there, Jeff formed the Jeff Beck Group. Although the group would go through numerous lineup changes, notable members included vocalist Rod Stewart, guitarist/bassist Ron Wood and pianist Hopkins.

The Jeff Beck Group's first two releases were for Columbia, 1968's "Truth" and "Beck-ola" in 1969. Dissension within the group led to a split in July, 1969 on the eve of their appearance at Woodstock. The Rolling Stones asked Beck to join their band after the death of Brian Jones.

Beck was injured in a car accident later in 1969 and took time off to recover. When he returned to the scene it was with an all-new Jeff Beck Group. Their first album, "Rough and Ready" was released in October, 1971. It mixed R&B and soul with a jazzy vibe. Their second album "The Jeff Beck Group", produced by Cropper in Memphis continued with the soulful sounds. The band underwent personnel changes/breakups again.

In 1975 Beck released the instrumental solo album "Blow by Blow". It reached #4 on Billboard's Hot 200 and was certified platinum. He followed that up with a tour. He continued to record and tour throughout the '70s, his reputation as a perfectionist following him wherever he went.

1981 saw Beck team-up with fellow former Yardbird guitarist Clapton for a series of shows, the gunslingers performing mano a mano. "Flash" was released in 1985, featuring Beck working with various singers, including one-time Jeff Beck Group vocalist Stewart. Beck was there for his former bandmate Stewart's induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1992.

Through the years, Beck has continued to tour the world and release new music, both solo and collaborative. He's played with a most eclectic group of musicians ranging from Brian Wilson to David Bowie to Clapton to Joss Stone, always searching for the perfect sound to emanate from his ever-present Fender Stratocaster. To this day, Beck continues to be sighted as one of the most influential guitarists in music, and raises the bar every time his straps on his Strat. Until next time, boys and girls. Keep It Bluesy!

SLAP SHOTS

Great balls of fire, it's a hockey night in Pittsburgh! Your Pittsburgh Penguins return to the home ice of Consol Energy Center tonight as they faceoff against the Edmonton Oilers. These are your keys for tonight's game. 1)Edmonton, already eliminated from playoff-contention, is one of the worst teams in the league at 18-38-11 and 47 points. Their road record is 8-18-9. The Pens carry a record of 38-18-10 with 86 points and a home mark of 20-10-3 into this game. Both teams are coming off Monday losses. The Oilers lost at Detroit 5-2. The Pens lost in a shootout at San Jose 2-1. Don't sleep on this team and take them too lightly. Crank up the Crue and the Goals, Goals, Goals, baby! 2)The Pens were 0 for 12 on the power play on their recent road trip. Edmonton is 27th on the penalty kill at 77.7%. Take advantage of the man-advantage. Man up! 3)The Pens are 5-0-1 in their last 6 versus Edmonton. G Marc-Andre Fleury is 6-0-0 with a 1.84 GAA in his last 6 starts against the Oilers. Flower Power! Let's Go Pens!!!

50-YARD LINE

Happy New League Year, Pittsburgh Steelers fans! At 4pm yesterday, free agent season officially began around the league. As Mrs. Black-N-Gold writes this, the Steelers went back to their conservative ways of not bagging any big free agents on the first day. You may recall, last season, the Steelers tried something different, snagging S Mike Mitchell early on and paying him big bucks. Since that went over like a lead balloon, it appears the Steelers have reverted back to being non-players in free agency's early goings.

However, the Steelers did make waves the last few days. The most notable announcement was that they released DE Brett Keisel. Da Beard had a strong 2014 but finished the season on the IR, thus ending his career in Black-N-Gold. Of course there are the rumors that should the Diesel decide to continue playing, he may go to Arizona or follow Dick LeBeau to Tennessee. Whatever happens, Mrs. Black-N-Gold wishes Brett nothing but the best, so long as his business doesn't conflict with Steelers business.

The same goes for S Troy Polamalu, CB Ike Taylor and OLB James Harrison. The Steelers still haven't made any decisions as far as these veterans go. What we do know is that both Taylor and Harrison are among the Steelers unrestricted free agents. That list also includes WR Darrius Heyward-Bey, TE Michael Palmer, RB Ben Tate, S Will Allen, DL Clifton Geathers, CB Brice McCain and OLB Jason Worilds.

Most of these free agents aren't worth retaining although the Steelers entertained bringing back Worilds. This morning, ESPN reports that Worilds is retiring. Although he was an experienced OLB, his injuries and inconsistency were maddening. Mrs. Black-N-Gold wouldn't mind seeing Allen and McCain return as they filled in admirably this season when the defense needed them most.

The Steelers re-signed 2 of their free agents, OLB Arthur Moats and TE Matt Spaeth. We may see more of Moats this season if the Steelers don't bring back Harrison and/or if they fail to land another OLB in the draft or free agency. They need someone to team-up with the oft-injured Jarvis Jones.

The Steelers also tendered deals to 3 restricted free agents, CB Antwon Blake, S Robert Golden and FB Will Johnson. This gives the Steelers the right to match any offer sheets these players may sign.

With the Steelers $7 million under the salary cap, it comes as no surprise to Mrs. Black-N-Gold that they didn't try go after any big free agents. Keep in mind, some of the best Steelers free agents didn't exactly set the world on fire when they got here: James Farrior, Kimo von Oelhoffen, Kevin Greene. The Steelers just need to get back to evaluating talent they way the used to and not grasp at straws like they did a year ago with Mitchell and DE Cam Thomas. They need to go back to the Steelers way. Let's Go Steelers!!!!!!

THE BULLPEN

Well, Mrs. Black-N-Gold is back from her sojourn to the promised land, Bradenton, FLA. How was the trip? It was short and sweet. Mrs. Black-N-Gold enjoyed her time with her Black-N-Gold-loving niece, she enjoyed just a little bit of sun on game day and, of course, she enjoyed her Buccos.

Unfortunately, the game was kind of like kissing your cousin, it ended in a 1-1, 10-inning tie. You'll have that during spring training. Other than that little glitch, it was a most excellent Black-N-Gold time. Keep in mind, though, it is only spring training.

First of all, I loved how friendly everyone was. Walking down the street to get to McKechnie Field, everyone was quite neighborly. Considering there were fans in attendance wearing not only Pirates and Rays gear but also Cubs hats, Cardinals jerseys, Nats t-shirts. I even struck up a conversation with a policeman that was an Orioles (and, ugh, Ravens) fan. I also saw a fellow sporting the mutton chop-mustache look to go with his Cardinals cap and jersey. It put me in the mind of former Cardinals closer, Al Hrabosky. When I mentioned this to the gentleman he said that I must be a Cards fan. Are you kidding me? Here I stood sporting my newest Pirates shirt and he accused me of being a St Louie fan? "No" I said. "I'm a baseball fan!".

I must also give kudos to all the Pirates employees at McKechnie. Not only is it a beautiful ballpark, they help make the experience all the more enjoyable with their fan-friendly attitude. Mrs. Black-N-Gold was even able to secure an ice cold I.C. Light at the game.

I was happy to see A.J. Burnett get the nod to start the game. He gave up one hit in two innings of work, recording no strikeouts but issuing no walks, either. He did avoid trouble in the first when a gap shot was run down by CF Keon Broxton. Not many starters appeared in the game. Andrew McCutchen was the DH. LF Starling Marte and RF Gregory Polanco both started. They were both 1 for 2. We got to see Jung Ho Kang at SS. He was 0 for 2. RH Nick Kingham didn't look bad, although he did give up 2 hits in 2 innings. He also fanned 2 batters. LHs Tony Watson and Antonio Bastardo each got an inning of work. RH Jared Hughes pitched 1 inning, too, giving up 2 hits. RH Brad Lincoln has his work cut out for him as he tries to make the team. Lincoln gave up 1 run on 1 hit and 1 walk in 1 inning. The Pirates had a runner on 3rd with no one out in the home half of the 10th and failed to score. At that point, the scrubs were in, so it didn't account for much. Mrs. Black-N-Gold just hopes she doesn't see runners stranded very often during the regular season.

Highlights-

1)C Elias Diaz's arm. He showed it off a few times. The kid has a cannon behind the plate.
2)CF Keon Broxton's play in CF.
3)RH Nick Kingham looks like he'll be at PNC later this year.
4)The kid with the Rays shirt that caught the line drive foul ball on the first base line. Sign him up.

Lowlights-

1)RH Jared Hughes has some work to do.
2)OF Wily Garcia had what looked to be a trip, trip, triple and he held up at second. Got to hustle if you want to make the team, Wily.
3)RH Brad Lincoln isn't impressing anyone in the early going.
4)Jalapeno Hannah getting blown out in the Pierogie Race. It's even spring training for the Pierogies.

All in all, it was a wonderful time. Mrs. Black-N-Gold highly recommends that you make the trip south to catch the Pirates as soon as you're able. She's already making plans for next year where she expects the Pirates to have a new flag flying high atop McKechnie. One that says World Champs, 2015. Let's Go Bucs!!!!!

These are your keys for tonight's game. 1)The Pens have won 2 straight in Cali. If it's 3 it's for me! 2)The Pens are 0-9-1 in their last 10 games in San Jose. Take a bite out of the Sharks with lots o' Goals, Goals, Goals! 3)The Sharks are 1-7-2 on home ice since the beginning of February. The Pens are 18-8-6 on the road and 6-3-1 in their last 10 games. Time for a Black-N-Gold home invasion! Let's Go Pens!!!

These are your keys for tonight's game. 1)The Pens and Ducks have both been on a roll through their last 10 games. The Ducks are 7-3-0 while the Pens are 6-3-1. It's Duck season! 2)The Ducks have been powerless on the power play, scoring just once in their last 11 games with the man-advantage. The Pens need their special teams to be special. Kill those penalties! 3)The Pens have won their last 3 games vs. Anaheim. Get win #4, score, score, score the Goals, Goals, Goals, baby! Let's Go Pens!!!

BLACK-N-GOLD N'AT

Mrs. Black-N-Gold can't stop grinning from ear to ear. This is a wonderful time of year to be a fan of the Black-N-Gold. Today she reflects on why this is such a special time for be a fan of your Pittsburgh Penguins, Pirates and Steelers.

As Mrs. Black-N-Gold types these words, the Pens are waiting for the puck to drop in Colorado. They open a 4-game road trip against the Avalanche, riding a 4-game winning streak. GM Jim Rutherford made a few deadline deals last week, trading D Robert Bortuzzo for D Ian Cole and D Simon Depres for D Ben Lovejoy. He also traded away a few draft picks and F Zach Sill for F Daniel Winnick prior to the deadline. Will these moves put the Pens over the top? That remains to be seen. What we do know is that it's beginning to look a lot like Stanley Cup season as the Pens gear up for a Cup run. G Marc-Andre Fleury continues to play out of his mind. C Sidney Crosby and C Evgeni Malking look to, finally, be clicking on all cylinders, too. The recent line changes by Coach Mike Johnston may have awoken the Pens from the months-long slumber. Just in time for the playoffs. Let's Go Pens!!!

Hopefully, by the time you read this, Mrs. Black-N-Gold will be making her long-awaited pilgrimage to Bradenton to see the Bucs battle the Rays in a spring training tilt on Saturday. Yes, it looks like spring may be finally in the air. The Pirates won their first spring training game on Tuesday, defeating Toronto 8-7. Good news from that game: Both INF Jung Ho Kang and 1B Pedro Alvarez connected for homers. If ever there were two players that needed to get off on the right foot this spring, it was Kang and Pedro. Unfortunately, the Buccos lost to the Jays yesterday 4-1. But the beauty is it's spring and it's early. There is plenty of time for the Pirates to work things out en route to the NL Central title and the World Series. Let's Go Bucs!!!!!

The Steelers have many tough decisions ahead of them in the coming weeks. They have been busy restructuring contracts to clear some cap space. They also need to work out a deal with QB Ben Roethlisberger who is in the final year of his current contract. Speaking of contracts, the Steelers failed to tag OLB Jason Worilds, deciding to let him enter the free agent market. Will they replace him in free agency or via the draft? Or will they bring back OLB James Harrison for one more go-round? They still need to make some tough calls on the fate of S Troy Polamalu, CB Ike Taylor and DE Brett Keisel, too. With free agency just around the corner and the draft after that, keep an eye here for the latest transactions as the Steelers look to get back to the Super Bowl and Lombardi #7.  Let's Go Steelers!!!!!!

THE BULLPEN

Well, Mrs. Black-N-Gold has her bags packed, her Xanax in hand and is ready for her flight to FLA. She will travel to Bradenton to take in her first spring training with your Pittsburgh Pirates. Excitement is in the air as Mrs. Black-N-Gold has never made the pilgrimmage to McKechnie Field. Here are some of the things Mrs. Black-N-Gold looks forward to in her travels.

1)Saturday afternoon, Rays-Pirates. Of course this would be at the top of Mrs. Black-N-Gold's list. She's been reading about the Bucs all offseason and can't wait to get an up-close-and-personal look at them herself. I've been compiling questions should I have the honor of meeting anyone within the organization. The questions run the gamut from "Can you get me tix to PNC Park" (that one is for anyone that crosses my path), to "Why haven't you signed the Homeboy to a long-term deal (that one is for Huntington, Coonelly, and/or Nutting. You can be sure I have questions at the ready for the players, too. I'd ask SS Jordy Mercer if he's feeling any heat from newly arrived INF Jung Ho Kang. Or C Francisco Cervelli if he feels pressure to put up Russell Martin-like numbers. Don't worry, if any member of the Pittsburgh Pirates is within earshot, they're going to hear from Mrs. Black-N-Gold.

2)Trading in turtlenecks, boots, and gloves for sandals, shorts and sunglasses is definitely up there on Mrs. Black-N-Gold's list, too. I hope Mother Nature is good to me in Florida. In the past, I've been known to be a bad-weather jinx, bringing record cold temperatures wherever I go. Right now it looks like Joe DeNardo is the weatherman in Bradenton, as there is a lot of "party cloudy" scheduled for my trip. At least it will be in the '70s and no snow in sight.

3)What would a trip for Mrs. Black-N-Gold be without the blues? I've heard of a place called Ace's in Bradenton that is supposed to be good for blues music. Unfortunately, I've also heard it's a Cleveland Browns bar, if you can believe that. I may have to take the good (blues music) with the bad (Cleveland Browns fans). I see the legendary Nighthawks are listed for Friday. I've seen them quite a few times and was hoping to catch an act I hadn't already seen. I did hear there is a blues jam on Thursdays at the Flying Dog CafĂ© in Bradenton. I'll have to check my schedule. One way or another, there will be blues in Bradenton for Mrs. Black-N-Gold.

I hope to get some pictures while I'm gone. If I'm lucky enough to get any quotes, maybe I can write about the Pirates or the blues from this trip. Is there any way I can write this trip off as a business expense? What's that? You say you have to get paid for this to be considered "business"? Oh, if only. I can dream, can't I? Let's Go Bucs!!!!! Keep It Bluesy!

50-YARD LINE

Mrs. Black-N-Gold has been hearing the chatter all weekend. She doesn't like what she's hearing and it's time to speak up. What is all this Mike Wallace wants to return to Pittsburgh talk? After two uneventful yet well-paid seasons in Miami, former Steeler WR Mike Wallace and the Dolphins may soon part company. There are rumors that Wallace won't take a pay cut if asked and may have played his last down in South Beach.

All Pittsburgh Steelers fans remember the name of Mike Wallace. He was the speedster that was drafted by the Steelers in the 3rd round out of Mississippi in 2009. He was a 3-time Rookie of the Week that season and was awarded the Steelers Rookie of the Year honor. He also made the Pro Bowl in 2011 while with the Steelers.

After that, the honeymoon appeared over in Pittsburgh. Wallace held out of OTAs and most of training camp in 2012, his contract year. While Wallace was holding out for a big payday, the Steelers rewarded his fellow WR Antonio Brown with the big-money contract Wallace coveted. Brown has gone on to bigger and better things with the Steelers. In 2013 and 2014 he made the Pro Bowl, he was second-team All Pro in 2013 and first-team in 2014. He was the NFL leader for receptions and receiving yards and led the AFC in touchdowns for 2014. He was also Co-Offensive Player of the Year in the AFC in 2014.

Wallace has put up respectable numbers while in Miami but no where near the 5-year, $60 million deal that he signed. Wallace has appeared in 32 games with 140 catches, 1792 yards and 15 touchdowns. Wallace reportedly quit on his team in the final game of the season, exhibiting the need for an attitude adjustment. Word is the Dolphins are trying to swing a trade for Wallace.

The rumor is Wallace would welcome a return to the Black-N-Gold. Sorry, Mike. That ship has sailed. Not only has AB blossomed into the best WR in the NFL, the receiving corps has turned into a strength for the Steelers. With Martavis Bryant and Markus Wheaton in the fold, Mike Wallace is old news in Pittsburgh. Take your one-trick pony somewhere else. Mike Who?  Let's Go Steelers!!!!!!

Eddie spaghetti, it's a hockey night in Pittsburgh! Your Pittsburgh Penguins return to the home ice of Consol Energy Center as they faceoff against the Columbus Blue Jackets today. These are your keys for today's game. 1)Columbus rides into Pittsburgh after losing to New Jersey last night 2-0. In fact, the Blues Jackets have lost 5 straight.
